The government is going to provide another round of cash assistance to nearly 6 lakh poor families facing income losses and hardship amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown.
Each family will receive one-off cash support of Tk 2,515 before the Eid-ul-Fitr through mobile financial services bKash, Nagad, and Rocket said finance ministry officials.
In the meantime, a letter has been sent to the Chief Accountant for approval of Tk 150.90 crore for six lakh families as a stimulus package.
In this regard, the officials of the finance department said that last year the poor and the marginalized people were given cash assistance of Tk2,500 each. Their information is stored in the database. Those who got financial aid last year will get money this year too. From May 2, six lakh families will start getting Tk 2,515 through mobile banking. Apart from this, the work of checking and selecting the grant of 5,000 only for the farmers is being done anew.
The government has also announced a grant of Tk 5,000 each to one lakh farming families affected by the recent natural calamities. Therefore, work is underway to collect information at the field level to finalize the list of affected farming families.
Earlier, in the last fiscal year 2019-20, financial assistance was given to about 35 lakh families by screening 5 lakh families affected by Corona.
